HGS 2009 Show

This years show will suit everyone – some fantasy and nostalgia, lots of slick dance routines and great songs and music. Hornsby Gang Show 2009 is a fast moving revue ranging from short sketches to full stage musical items. Much of the music is original or pieces so familiar and fun that we can’t resist their appeal. The production team and cast are encouraged to write new music and songs between each show and this year several original sketches are featured. Five new musical pieces will be premiered this year including “Just Dream”, part of the “Once Upon a Time“ sequence and “My Heart Lies North” as part of the finale to the show.

We open the 2009 show with great music from the 1950’s and end the first act with our twisted fairy tale. The cast will then move from the bright lights of a razzle dazzle night club to Transylvania - “Mad about You” and onto Central Park, finishing with the traditional scouting themes “Friends” and world renown Gang Show songs.

A theatrical musical revue gives everyone lots of opportunity to laugh at life in “Rugby the Not so Tough Game” and “Traffic Jam”, including a few digs at scouting and guiding. Every single musical item in the show has original movement and dance routines. Some items are dedicated dance only numbers and some are full stage musical numbers with big dance breaks from our trained dancers, including, for the first time in many years, a tap item - “The Happy Hobo”. It is a spectacular sight to see such a large cast in a full stage item moving in unison and then executing challenging routines. The audience won’t believe that some of these cast have never been on stage and never danced before.

The cast, some as young as 12 years old, learn to perform with such proficiency in 5 months of rehearsals because of the energy and spirit that comes with being part of a Gang Show. Everyone has fun in Hornsby Gang Show because they all love to perform and are all encouraged to contribute their creative ideas. This common passion for the theatre builds confidence, commitment and an energy that burst forth from the stage. The audience will again leave uplifted this year, after sharing in this spirit and feeling.
